Nekia Gets That Coffee...She needs it. Assignment 7

This was quite the task, however, I did have some fun with it.  There are some dropouts in sound that work since my headphones are broken and sound only comes out of one them, so it adds to my little coffee adventure.  Enjoy

Assignment 6 - Kia Gets Some Coffee

This was an interesting project for me. Interesting in that I actually had to record something outside of a studio, without a mic, pop filter etc.

Initially I wanted to do a sounds of the new 'hood but, I liked what I gathered on a Starbucks trip.  I wanted it to sound real and not overly produced.  I started on the train and kept a couple of those elements as well as intro'd and outro'd with a snippet of a song to take you inside of my iphone's music library.

I used Adobe Audition CS6, which is what I am most comfortable with, well Audition not necessarily CS6 (newer system) and I had fun adjusting the levels and splitting the tracks to make you feel like you're in the moment. I also normalized and reduced the noise.

Photo Manipulation - Assignment 5

Fun with photoshop: Most of the photos were taken with the Canon 60D.  The first however was taken with my iPhone at an event and I liked it so much I decided to add it to my collection. 

The first photo was very grainy so I started off making it less grainy, but then I started messing around with other features and came up with the picture to the right.  

This would be fun with layers in photoshop. I merged the two photos that I felt made the most sense together and came up with the third photo.  I suppose I like grainy, cartoon like photos. 

I wanted to learn how to isolate one object in a photo to give some contrast and the second picture is the result.

I wanted to frame Wyclef and give it a grainier look. I found a frame online and this is what I came up with. 

I combined a few of the techniques to get this photo. Lighting, filtering, black and white, levels, etc

A Girl and Her Drill

The story starts in Ikea Brooklyn on a Sunday.  I found a cheap drill and thought about all the crafts that I can do.  I've never held a drill in my life but knew that I had to have it...(blame the Ikea oxygen).  It's conveniently named FIXA (is that even Swedish?)

I recently moved.  My apartment is a mess. I initially wanted to show from start to finish, but I don't live on HGTV. Candice Olson isn't coming to fix my apartment, so no pretty pictures of a finished apartment. However, I did utilize my time wisely with some "fun" projects from Ikea.  

I'm convinced that Ikea pumps oxygen in the air like casinos so that you stay there for extended periods of time without even realizing.  Next thing you know you have a bunch of items in your cart while calculating the total and deciding if you're gonna eat beans for a weak or get the new wardrobe...or maybe that's just me.

Project 3: Picture Time!

The lesson was to choose three of the six genres of photography. I chose landscape and nature, portrait and street.  Because of my schedule, I don't get much day light (I'm really a vampire), so I had to go to the most well lit place in NYC no matter the time of day, Times Sq.  Fortunately I was able to catch some early dawn photos for landscape and nature.  The plus for this project is I've actually taken a picture before :).

Self Advertising - Project 2

Everything But Rice is my side catering service. A venture that I started when I was first laid off.  When I thought about this project I wanted to find a picture that showcased the product of the service.  In my research I saw that many catering companies advertised the catering aspect and not the food as much.  I wanted the food to be the main seller. This picture made my mouth salivate so that is why I chose it.  

Photoshop was a task, so I consulted Lynda.com for some tips then ended up asking a school mate in the lab how to fix the colors to make them POP.  I obviously have a lot to learn.  This is more of a business card.  I will be working towards doing a magazine advertorial eventually.  ANY tips are welcomed. 

Project 1- Advertisements - 2-13-13

I'd like to preface this by saying that I have never viewed photos with a critical/artistic eye. Initially, I pulled some pictures out of a magazine and made an attempt to match the picture to the designated composition descriptions. I wasn't very successful with that. After I read the text, I then began to understand a little more what I should be looking for in a picture. Below you will find pictures that I found to be interesting. They are photos of pictures from a magazine because I didn't purchase it and it belonged to the nail salon (I have to work wherever I sit).

Symmetry and Asymmetric The text describes symmetry/asymmetric as having identical arrangements on both sides of the axis. Though the figures are not identical, I would still consider this to be symmetrical. In this case the bag is the axis, because it is the product being sold, but also it is centered.












  Positive/Negative The positive/negative aspect in this photo comes with the overlapping of the black COACH letters over the white.  And the white over the grey.














  Figure and Ground I had a tough time deciding between figure and ground or groupings. What made me choose the former was the background of the as a steady constant with the purses in the front going in a circular motion.













Direction I think that this might have been the easiest one for me to figure out because of the way the jars were set up going towards the right and also the chemical formula going right and upward to the corner of the page.













Size Size was also easier simply because of the huge perfume bottle taking up most of the photo.
